Geology

Geological Setting and Mineralisation

The Koa project area is located at the southern extent of the Areachap and Kaaien Terranes, Namaqualand Metamorphic Province (NMP) (Figure 19).

The Areachap Terrane comprises a 280 km long NNW-trending belt that represents a 1.3 to 1.24 Ga old, highly metamorphosed and deformed remnant of a mature volcanic arc accreted onto the Kaapvaal Craton.

The Areachap Terrane hosts at least 20 known stratabound to stratiform volcanogenic massive to semi-massive sulphide deposits and occurrences (VMS), including the Prieska deposit (JORC resource of 27.8 Mt at 1.22% Cu, 3.93% Zn and 0.20g/t Au), located 15 km north of the Koa Project.

At Koa the Areachap and Kaaien Terranes are covered by a thin veneer of tillites of the basal Dwyka Formation of the Permian Karoo Sequence and intruded by numerous Karoo-age dolerite dykes and sills (Figure 20)
